Psalm of Lament

A Psalm of Lament

Lord, where are the faithful persons?
Where are your sons and daughters who speak truth?
I don't know truth from deception,
I don't know genuineness from the counterfeit.

The accused say, "I'm changed and sober,"
The accusers say, "Deception is on their tongue."
Your son says, "I'm broken and bewildered!"
Your children say, "How could you have done this?"

I want to believe people and their words.
Lord, I know that I too have concealed struggles,
My shame covered by empty platitudes and promises.
Lord, I cry out for forgiveness.

My trust is not in the words of men,
But in your Word which reveals truth.
Your Holy Spirit brings discernment to my ear,
Your Light reveals the hearts of men.
